Did you know 1 in 2 women over the age of 60 experience bladder leaks (also called incontinence)?

As we get older the muscles around our bladder stop working the way they should.

Which can cause unwanted (and often embarrassing!) leaks that are completely out of our control.

Up until recently the most common way to deal with this problem was disposable pads.

While effective at absorbing leaks, pads often create more problems than they solve due to their bulkiness, discomfort, high price tag, and the need to change them out multiple times per day.

In the last few years though a new form of protection has become more popular:

Leakproof underwear.

Leakproof underwear claim to be able to do everything that disposable pads can, but without the downsides.

As a 63 year old woman who’s had regular bladder leaks for years (and become increasingly annoyed with disposable pads) I decided to try leakproof underwear for myself.

Do they actually work?

Are they really worth it?

Here is my honest review after 30 days.

Before I give you my review, let me explain how leakproof underwear work.

Leakproof underwear are essentially regular underwear with a special built-in lining, usually made from multiple layers of absorbent material.

This lining runs from front to back and performs 2 main functions:

(1) Prevents liquids from leaking through the underwear onto your clothes
(2) Absorbs liquids into the inner layers to keep you dry and comfy even after you leak

Using a combination of cotton, bamboo, and polyester fibers...

Leakproof underwear claim to provide all day protection while still remaining soft and comfortable.

Compared to disposable pads, leakproof underwear are also much thinner and more discreet since the lining is made to be invisible underneath your clothes.

And because they are washable, they can be reused hundreds of times before needing to purchase a new pair.

After struggling with bladder leaks for years, I’d grown sick and tired of “scraping by” with mediocre solutions like incontinence pads, disposable panty liners, and adult diapers.

When I started wearing leakproof underwear, it was perfect timing.

I had multiple events coming up (my grandson’s middle school graduation, my niece’s wedding, and a long awaited Alaskan cruise with my husband).

So if there was ever a time to find a product that was both leakproof AND comfortable to wear all day, this was it!

I was eager to try them and hopeful they’d work for me.

So I placed my order, and here’s what happened next…

The leakproof underwear from Everdries arrived early within 5 days (yay!).

The packaging was just like I’d hoped – plain and discreet so as to not “give away” what was inside.

They had a special deal at the time so I received 5 pairs of undies for $59.95. They all came individually packed and although (hopefully!) no one else will see them, I did like how they came with 5 different colors.

Immediately after taking the first pair out of the packaging I was surprised at how thin and soft they were.

They felt just like normal underwear and the material seemed to be high quality (a good sign since you never really know what you’re going to get when you order online).

I also liked how the absorbent liner was “full coverage” and ran from the front of the panties all the way to the back.

While the absorbent liner was full coverage, it was much thinner than I was expecting.

Which made me skeptical that it would actually absorb anything...

So before I dove in head first (and to prevent a potentially embarrassing accident!) I put the panties through what I call “the sink test.” I took them over to the sink and ran some water over the leakproof part to see what would happen.

I was honestly a bit shocked by the results!

As soon as the water touched the liner it began absorbing, with the water gradually spreading across the liner from front to back (this was actually quite fun to watch).

Within a minute or two the water had been totally absorbed and none of it had leaked through.

(I’d set a some paper down beneath the underwear to make sure – it was totally dry.)

The leakproof part was understandably damp, but the outside part remained dry which I was very happy and even a bit surprised to see.

After passing the sink test, it was time to try them out myself.

After washing them the night before and leaving them to hang dry overnight (not necessarily required but I always wash new clothes before I wear them) I woke up excited (and a little nervous!) to try the panties out.

I put them on for the first time and immediately noticed a few things.

(1) The fit was perfect. I’d seen a few comments about the sizing running a tad large so I ordered a size L to be safe (I’m an L or an XL depending on the brand).

(2) The leakproof part was surprisingly comfortable. I was worried it’d feel strange or irritate the sensitive skin “down there” but it felt very nice and soft just like my normal underwear.

(3) I could barely even tell they were special leakproof underwear. There wasn’t any bulkiness, I couldn’t see them through the clothes, and I hardly felt the absorbent liner. They really did feel just like regular underwear!

After noting down my initial observations, I started going about my day…

Within just a few hours I had my first leak after putting a bit too much pepper on my sandwich.

I let out a big sneeze and immediately knew the panties were being put to the test (sneezing almost always causes me to leak).

To my surprise I didn’t really feel much of anything.

At first I thought maybe I hadn’t leaked at all, but then I went to the restroom to check and the liner was dark and a little damp, so I definitely had.

Upon further inspection I was amazed!

The absorbent liner was damp, but the other side was still completely dry and so were my jeans!

Not a single drop had leaked through.

My first day trying out the undies was fairly confidence-inspiring, but now it was time to answer the real question…

Can I really wear these out and about without worrying about leaks?

There was only one way to find out.

I had a few errands to run and was meeting an old friend for lunch so I threw on a fresh pair of the leakproof underwear and headed out the door.

The errands were somewhat uneventful but sure enough...

Once I was at lunch with my friend Bonny the panties had yet another chance to prove themselves.

Bonny had me cracking up within minutes of sitting down (she’s a hoot!) as we reminisced on our time working together in the ICU (we were both career nurses).

Of course laughing, along with sneezing, makes it near impossible to control my bladder.

Especially with how hard I was laughing I was expecting a significant leak, even larger than the one from yesterday’s sneeze.

I excused myself to the ladies room to see what the damage was, and…

My pants were totally dry! Once again not a single drop had leaked through.

This time nearly the entire absorbent liner was a darker color (indicating a larger leak than before) but still the outside of the panties were dry and they seemed to have contained everything no problem.

After two weeks of wearing Everdries underwear I have to say I was very impressed.

Through all that time, and after multiple cycles in the wash, I hadn’t had a single accident or leakthrough.

Every time I leaked the panties trapped it, absorbed it, and kept it contained – many times without me even noticing at all.

Instead of carrying a big pack of disposable pads everywhere I went, I just kept a fresh pair of Everdries in my purse to change into if needed.

For the first time in years I was able to run errands, spend time with friends and family, and go about my daily life without worrying about leaks.

It was really quite a freeing feeling!

Sufficiently satisfied with my new undies, I ordered another 5-pack to make sure I had plenty for my Alaska trip which was coming up in a few days.

After a full month of wearing Everdries leakproof underwear, I have to tell you they have been a complete game-changer for me.

I actually can’t believe it took me so long to try them, I wish I’d tried them years ago!

They do everything my old disposable pads did...

All while being more comfortable, more convenient, and far less expensive since I can wash and reuse them over and over.

They fit great, they feel good on my skin, and most importantly…

They just don’t let leaks through!

Through the entire month of wearing these underwear I have not had a leak show through once.

I think my favorite thing about them though, is the confidence they give me when I leave the house.

Knowing that I’m always protected wherever I go – that peace of mind is hard to put a price on.

Truthfully, if you are an older lady like me who experiences bladder leaks, I cannot think of a single reason NOT to own these underwear! I really cannot recommend them enough.

The experiment made me realize that my incontinence was affecting my day-to-day life a lot more than I previously thought.

The clothes I wore, the places I went, the events I decided to attend or not attend… the possibility of a bladder leak affected all of these decisions.

Before this I really had no idea there was such a great form of protection available for women like me.
